Portrait of Igal Albala

I’m a creative producer and filmmaker. I specialize in documentaries, short films, strategy, branded work, and digital series, most often about sports and the human stories behind them. Football tends to be the common thread (call it soccer if you must), but what I’m really chasing is the collective euphoria of it: why people show up, what they carry into the stands, what a bunch of players and a ball mean to a place, to a community. I’ve spent years exploring that anthropologically across Latin America, and the same instinct travels to any sport with a story worth telling. My short film NANDO premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2021. That’s what brought me to New York, and it changed the direction of my career.

I spend real time in development and pre-production, because getting the right characters and an honest read on their story is most of the job. On set, I care about the team as much as the shot. That means paying attention to the energy in the room and building a space where the crew feels comfortable and motivated to do good work. I stay close through post and love collaborating with editors.

Chilean, with EU/Portuguese citizenship, based in Brooklyn on an O-1B visa. I work in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
